IMPACT OF BIODIVERSITY LOSS ON HUMAN HEALTH AND TREE PLANTATION WITH YOUTH

The Delhi National Capital Region spans across 1,483 sq km and faces significant environmental challenges. The transport sector plays a major role in air pollution, contributing approximately 421.84 tonnes of CO2, 110.45 tonnes of NO2, and 12.77 tonnes of particulate matter to the atmosphere. Also, the rapid construction in the region has resulted in the loss of approximately 112,169 trees since 2005, leading to increased levels of PM 2.5 and PM 10 pollutants and the loss of native biodiversity, such as the avian species. In an effort to improve the air quality and ecosystem, we aim to contribute by increasing the green cover through our initiative Impact of Biodiversity Loss on Human Health and Tree Plantation with Youth. This will help reduce the presence of fine particulate matter in the atmosphere by absorbing and providing a surface for it to settle. Additionally, it will help mitigate the greenhouse effect by sequestering atmospheric carbon dioxide.

Objectives:
● Raise awareness and enhance the knowledge of young individuals in Delhi NCR regarding the significance of tree planting.
● Make them understand the side-effects of biodiversity loss by make them understand terms like eco-anxiety, impact of air pollution and other associated risks.
● Educate youth about the social, health, and environmental advantages associated with planting trees and
● Identify suitable locations and engage youth volunteers in conducting tree plantation activities.

Tree Plantation
