Climate and Health Education Workshop at International Institute of Health Management and Research, Delhi, India

September 6, 2023

On September 6, 2023, the POP Movement organized a climate change awareness workshop at the International Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR) in Delhi. The primary objective of the workshop was to enlighten students about the critical issue of climate change and motivate them to take action.

A group of 44 students specializing in hospital management, health management, and health information technology management, comprising 33 women and 11 men, attend the event. They were guided by the POP Mentors: Drishya Pathak, Komal Mittal, Manish Gupta, and Remigius Fernandes. The workshop kicked off with an icebreaker activity, setting the stage for a day filled with insights and revelations related to climate change.

A survey was conducted to explore the intricate connection between climate change and its impacts on human health. The students engaged in discussions about how climate change intersects with various fields of study. They also delved into strategies to mitigate the effects of climate change and promote a sense of empowerment and responsibility among participants. The pivotal connection between climate change and biodiversity loss was emphasized, and how they can profoundly affect human wellbeing.

Students were offered insights into taking meaningful climate action and were encouraged to deepen their understanding of climate change. About 97% of those present expressed a keen interest in participating in collective group efforts, such as community-led afforestation and reforestation initiatives, to combat climate change collectively.

During this workshop, the POP Movement not only disseminated knowledge but also nurtured a community of health professionals committed to safeguarding our planet and human wellbeing. This inaugural climate change awareness workshop, led by POP Mentors in Delhi, marks a significant milestone in our journey towards a sustainable and climate-resilient future.
