Latin America Dialogue

The Latin America Dialogue was conceived as part of POP Movement’s Youth CAN (Youth for Climate Action Now) initiative on 22 April 2020, celebrating 50 years of Earth Day. It aims to create a platform for youth from Latin American countries alongside global leaders, academia, indigenous communities and other stakeholders to deliberate cross-sectoral, community-oriented and youth-led efforts for climate action and sustainable development in the Latin American countries.

Youth CAN – Latin America Dialogue

The first Latin America Dialogue was held in the invaluable presence of Former Ecuadorian President, Her Excellency, Dra. Rosalía Arteaga Serrano, who reaffirmed the role of education as a transversal axis for the comprehensive training of citizens and developing youth leadership for climate action. This was marked by a presence of 55 participants from 6 Latin American countries including México, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Colombia and Panama, where young participants presented various climate action projects carried out in their regions.

The Latin America Dialogue has been a result of the POP Movement’s partnership with Fundación Fidal, a youth and education focused not-for-profit founded by Dra. Rosalía Arteaga. This collaborative initiative has been envisioned towards implementing climate action in the Latin American region.

Second Latin America Dialogue on 22 July 2020

Reaffirming its vision to bring together stakeholders from different Latin American countries to promote climate action, the Second Latin America Dialogue on 22 July 2020 served as a platform for representatives from indigenous communities, media, academia, legislative, government, NGOs, and more importantly, youth to promote cross-sectoral and action-oriented engagement against the threats of climate change and environmental degradation in the Latin American regions. As an invaluable partner to the Latin America Dialogue, Her Excellency Dra. Rosalía Arteaga was the guest of honor and provided the keynote address.

Vision: As an organization that fundamentally believes in the grassroots leadership of “Youth Inspired by Knowledge”, the POP Movement advocates for, mobilizes and mentors youth leading grassroots climate actions. We hope the platform offered by the POP Movement will guide and motivate the youth of Latin America in working towards the indispensable cause of Protecting Our Planet, as we continue to urgently build a movement towards ensuring a healthy, inclusive, and sustainable future for the generations to come.
