POP Youth Mentor and Ambassador for Africa at the Bonn UNFCCC Climate Change Conference

POP Youth Mentor and Ambassador for Africa Samuel C. Okorie joined the Bonn UNFCCC Climate Change Conference from June 7 to 15, 2023. Reflecting on the event, he said:
“At the Bonn Climate Change Conference #SB58, we didn’t leave anyone behind and we also knocked at the door of many stakeholders seeking for their support for the establishment of the Loss and Damage of Fund in transparent and accountable manner on the basis of Climate Justice, gender equality, equity and fairness while calling for the inclusion of youth, indigenous people and marginalized groups in the funding arrangement and operationalization.
Our demands were clear and our actions were simple, pointing towards a key priority, that the Loss and Damage Fund must be easy and readily available and accessible to meet the immediate and post-immediate needs of youth, indigenous people and marginalized groups who are in dire need of the fund and are the most vulnerable groups; The fund should be grant based and the disbursement process should be flexible using the Bottom-Up approach where the fund will go directly to the affected communities, especially most affected people and area #MAPA”.
