POP Youth Mentor and Ambassador for Africa

Samuel C. Okorie is a sociologist, researcher, and community development professional with expertise in loss and damage assessment, climate change negotiation, project management and coordination, M&E, fundraising, and NGO consulting. He is the founder of the Youth For Today Initiative and leads the POP Nigeria Initiative (on Climate Education).

With a focus on demanding climate justice, facilitating negotiations, promoting advocacy, and youth mobilization, Samuel has spoken in global forums like the World Sustainable Development Forum in Durango, Mexico, Youth Leadership Network, Earth Odyssey, Vox Media, International Conference and POP Festival for Youth-Led Climate Action, MOCK COP26, COP26 side events, COP26 and Beyond (After the pandemic), UN Climate Change Dialogue, UNFCCC Warsaw Executive Meeting on Loss and Damage, UNFCCC-Santiago Network committee on loss and damage, United Nations Office in Geneva, Universidad Popular Autónoma del Estado de Puebla (UPAEP) in Mexico, and national newspapers and publications, to mention a few.

Samuel was a spokesperson in Mock COP26. Currently, he is a Youth Mentor and Ambassador for Africa at the POP Movement, British Council Young Climate Journalist, Climate and Sustainability Advisory Board Member for eduCCate Global, and European Climate Pact Ambassador for the European Commission.

He is also a Climate Reality Leader, Fellow of Cambridge Existential Risk, Federation of International Gender and Human Rights, Global Landscape Forum, and Climate Tracker Journalist, to mention a few. He has participated as a staff researcher with the Center for Human Progress and the POP Movement in Nigeria on the project “Self-Care Interventions for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights” by WHO among youth to advance Universal Health Coverage.

Samuel is well-known for his relentless efforts in community development, especially focusing on climate change education. He is a globally recognized climate crusader, advocating for climate justice, sustainable livelihood, and green economy.
