September 5, 2023
Happy Mbewe, spearheaded an awareness and capacity-building initiative in Mataka village, accompanied by four key representatives: Happy Mbewe (Project Initiator), Dadley Chilaya (Main Facilitator), Lysan Patel (Farmers’ Representative), and Samute Sadam (On behalf of the host – Chief Mataka). The primary focus of the activity was to provide training to farmer group leaders in TREE NURSERY ESTABLISHMENT PRACTICES ahead of the project’s actual commencement.
The participants, consisting of 20 farmer group leaders from three project sites (Mataka, Masinde, and Limera), engaged in a practical training session covering essential topics such as seed selection, types of seeds, seed treatment, soil selection, pot filling, nursery management, leadership, and group dynamics. The overarching objectives included promoting climate leadership, equipping farmers with the necessary skills for nursery raising, and fostering synergy for climate responsibilities within the community.
The event saw the active involvement of 12 youth, 8 farmers, and 1 government official. By imparting knowledge on successfully producing tree seedlings, the activity empowered communities to effectively implement afforestation programs in their respective areas.
