Shonali Pachauri

Shonali Pachauri is research group leader of the Transformative Institutional and Social SolutionsResearch Group, in the Energy, Climate, and Environment Program at the International Institutefor Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Austria. She has also served as an adjunct professor at theYale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, where she taught graduate courses duringthe Fall semester of 2016. She holds a PhD in Energy Policy and Economics from the Swiss FederalInstitute of Technology, Zurich (ETHZ) and an MSc from University College London (UCL).

Dr. Pachauri has published extensively, both in the form of scientific peer-reviewed articles andpolicy reports, on heterogeneities in energy and infrastructural access and use andtransformative social, institutional, and technological pathways for achieving universal access todecent living energy services and assessing the wider impacts of this for human wellbeing andsustainable development.

She was a lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group III Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) and on the Synthesis Report. She was also a coordinating lead author for the Global Energy Assessment (GEA). She serves on the science advisory panel for the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) and has served on the advisory group for the International Network on Gender and Energy (ENERGIA). She is also on the editorial advisory board of several highly ranked interdisciplinary scientific journals.
