In early 2016, Brazilian Maestro, Diego Carneiro initiated the Youth Orchestra of Ecuador, with an aim of creating a platform for young, talented musicians to improve their technical skills through advanced studies of solo, chamber and symphonic repertoires, which in turn allows them to gain invaluable stage experience. The orchestraforms a spaceof open, alternative learning which provides opportunity to its members who in turn establish the group.
In just a short time, they have performed more than 40 concerts on different stages, received master classes with musicians from Argentina, Switzerland, England, Iran, Cuba, the United States, Armenia, Brazil, Spain, and Ecuador. One of the key goals of the Orchestrais to generate a public affection for classical, Ecuadorian and Latin American music. The first concert was for the victims of the 2016 earthquake, during which a poetry recital was performed by ambassadors and prominent Ecuadorian figures. From that moment forward, several important concerts were held on various stages around the country, such as during Habitat III, the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development held in Quito, outdoor concerts promoted by the Mayor of Quito, several concerts at Casa de La Música (House of Music), and in Francisco De Orellana in the Ecuadorian Amazon. All of these concerts constitute a valuable experience of cultural exchange and integration. Recently, they participated in the 2017 International Festival of Sacred Music, organized by prestigious Teatro Nacional Sucre.
The Orchestra’s first international experience was during the two concerts held in the border cities (between Ecuador and Colombia), which were a result of the Columbian peace talks, and included young musicians from the Orchestra, Tulcán, and several other Columbian cities.
The formation of a talented youth orchestra that performedmany great concerts in such a short period of time resulted in foreign recognition. They were asked to represent Ecuador at important international music festivals in Aruba and Brazil, the latter of which was made possible through the support of public and private institutions.
