Ms. Komal Mittal
POP Youth Mentor
Ms. Komal Mittal is a passionate researcher and has committed herself to preserving the environment and protecting our planet. She believes in providing education and empowering communities, building awareness about environmental and health issues, and promoting youth and community action for needed change.
Komal Mittal wears two professional hats as she plays the roles of Research Associate in health at the Center for Human Progress and global Youth Mentor with the POP Movement.
Komal’s research in health currently focuses on understanding the self-care practices of the most marginalized and vulnerable communities in India. She also leads a national youth group, which focuses on promoting leadership and advocacy for the Sustainable Development Goals, supported by UNAIDS. She has co-authored a book on her research findings on self-care focused on sexual and reproductive health and HIV prevention, published by Springer Publishers. She has presented several reports in the area of public health, like, domestic health and mental violence among men and women in rural parts of Delhi, Dissemination of WHO Self-Care Guidelines for vulnerable and key populations, UNAIDS and APCASO Youth Consultation Project on SDGs.
Her work is not limited to the health sector. She has also been recognized with a “Research Excellence Award” for her study on the extraction of acid soluble collagen from soybean and tomato in the field of biotechnology. She has executed her approach to the environment and health in her recent work on “sustainability of self-care products,” which she presented at an International conference in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico.
She has also executed a pilot research for Delhi State Health Mission through the collection of primary data, data flow, compilation, and generation of the key indicators used by the National Institution for transforming India Aayog for District Hospital Ranking and was awarded for her research.
She has strong academic credentials to her credit and was recognized for her performance as an “All-Rounder” student in high school. Komal has a Bachelor’s degree in Science (BSc.) with a specialization in Biotechnology and was awarded for her overall academic excellence when she graduated in 2017. Komal also has a postgraduate degree in Health Management and Research from the International Institute of Health Management and Research, New Delhi, in 2019.
Through the POP Movement, she lends her knowledge and skills as an ecologist to the youth of the world. She has contributed various articles in the field of climate change. She believes that we, as humans, must unite and start working as a team to achieve positive solutions to climate change and the climate emergency. She wishes to reach out to the young leaders of the lower section of the society with her message of climate action, deploying her leadership skills, perseverance, motivation, integrity, and enthusiasm for a better and sustainable tomorrow.
