Our Impact
Know about the impact that we're making by clicking on the button below. Protect Our Planet (POP) is an initiative designed to address the urgent need to share information and knowledge with youth on solutions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the UN, mitigate climate change and adapt to its growing impacts. We believe that this impact can be more if you join your hands with us in the cause that we're building solutions to.

IMPACT STATEMENTS
National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Mexico City
- Developed a carbon-footprint calculator (for individuals) with a numerical and graphical representation of kg-CO2/year, compared with relatable standards like number of trees felled and Kms travelled by car. It also gives an indication of the amount of sea ice lost as a result of those emissions and suggests steps to reduce it over time.
- Determined the carbon footprint and product lifecycle of extracting elements (from the periodic table) from natural resources and selling them as finished products.
- Involved 350 faculty and students in POP activities and distributed reusable water cylinders in an effort to reduce the use of plastic bottles.
- Created a Facebook-UNAM page as an active outreach channel; mobilized close to 1400 followers. Ibero-American University, Santa Fe, Mexico
- Implemented the “Ecofila Project” - an express checkout line (and additional discount) in the university’s cafeterias for those who bring reusable food containers or coffee cups to get their food and drinks in.
- Development and maintenance of Huerto Ibero, an urban garden to provide organic food, raise awareness about sustainable agriculture and bring people closer to nature.
- Reintroduced thousands of specimens of Axolotl, an endemic, Mexican creature in an effort to recover its habitat in the protected canals of Xochimilco.
- Reforestation and regeneration of a gully in Santa Fe (ongoing).
Julius Stursberg Gymnasium, Neukirchen Vluyn, Germany
- Reduced 6808 tons of CO2 emissions through efficient use of energy, smart commuting to and from school, reduced flights (class trips), and paper.
- Replaced 820,000 copies of general paper with recycled paper.
- Saved 112,200 litres/year (187 school days) of water by demanding from the city council a reduction in the running time of taps to 15 seconds, down from over a minute earlier.
- Installation of PV panels on the school’s roof to meet its energy demand (ongoing).
BROAD Group, China
- Conducted close to 20 workshops and participated in 5 forums over the past year in an effort to establish the POP Movement and mobilize youth to implement its activities in their institutions.
- Featured in over 100 media coverage bulletins (including traditional and new-media) imparting the spirit of the POP Movement and seeking greater participation of educational institutions and youth across China.
- Achieved wider presence in China by featuring on page 1 of the results of the Chinese search engine Baidu when searching for “environmental activities”.
