On June 16, 2020, the POP Movement organized a panel on “Youth Climate Action for Clean Energy” to actively engage experts and young people in dialogue concerning the controversial recent energy policy in México. The panel was chaired by experts including Dr. Adrián Fernández- Bremauntz, CEO, Iniciativa Climática de México; Dra. Norma Patricia Muñoz Sevilla, Chairman of the Climate Change Council in México and Honorary Distinguished POP Mentor; and Dr. Daniel Chacón, Oficial del Portafolio de Energía Renovable de la Iniciativa Climática de México.

The panel also consisted of 3 young leaders, Diego Perdomo, a lawyer who graduated from the University of Iberoamericana, Samuel Soriano, student of Mechanical Engineering in Energy Systems from the Universidad de La Salle México and Camila González, 16-year-old Climate Activist.

In addition to gathering perspectives regarding the energy agreements in México and the constructive actions needed to deal with the situation, the panel discussion sought to address the following questions-

  1. What strategies be developed by young people to be involved in clean energy decisions in México?
  2. How can young people improve their capacity to think for themselves and develop communication skills to solve local climate problems such as the current energy situation in Mexico?
