World Bank Spring Meeting 2025
April 28, 2025

Chibese Ezekiel, Youth Ambassador from Ghana, Africa had the opportunity to represent the Strategic Youth Network for Development (SYND Ghana) as part of the Big Shift Global delegation at the World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, DC. Our collective mission focused on ensuring the Bank’s decisions prioritize people over profit, amplifying the voices of communities affected by its projects, and advocating for a just and inclusive green energy transition. He joined various meetings with Executive Directors and senior officials of the Bank, where he emphasized the importance of youth participation—especially in the International Development Association (IDA21) and the Mission 300 programme, which seeks to expand electricity access to 300 million Africans by 2030 and create millions of jobs for young people. He shared SYND’s recent report, Youth Engagement on Ghana’s Energy Transition Agenda, to underscore how young people are already contributing to this shift. Chibeze also participated in the Indaba Series on Science, Policy, and Youth in Ocean Governance, where he joined fellow speakers Yolanda Araba Aidoo, Michael Arhin Nash, and Antonio Korkuvi to explore how youth can help shape future ocean governance. Across all engagements, Chibeze consistently flagged the lack of youth at the decision-making table, despite the Bank’s emphasis on job creation for youth. Encouragingly, Bank officials acknowledged this gap and welcomed a proposed paper on meaningful youth inclusion.
