Workshop in Monterrey
February 27, 2019
Feb 27, 2019 — Workshop with Students of the Only Military School — Colegio de Bachilleres Militarizado, General Mariano Escobedo — in Mexico
The POP Movement was invited to Monterrey by the Government of Nuevo Leon, the Ministry of Sustainable Development, and the Ministry of Economy and Work to conduct a workshop with the students of the only military school — Colegio de Bachilleres Militarizado (CBM), General Mariano Escobedo — in Mexico. An interactive workshop was conducted at the University Autonoma de Nuevo Leon’s (UANL) School of the Science of Communications (or the Facultad de Ciencias de la Comunicación/FCC)… The 5-hour workshop was attended by 200-plus students of CBM and several officials from the supporting ministries as well as the Director of the School of Sustainable Development and the School of the Science of Communications at UANL. The students simulated a POP festival and used several creative tools to showcase climate issues, including issues of deforestation, water contamination, biodiversity, and plastics (among others); their causes; and pledged action to combat climate change urgently. The festival was anchored by a 15-year old student of CBM, Geneais Ledezma who also coordinated the simulated festival with nine of her peers. A jury led by three officials from the Ministry of Sustainable Development identified the top contributions to the festival based on originality, issues raised, and clarity of communications. All students and festival coordinators were awarded momentos for their participation. The workshop concluded with the administration of a survey by the Ministry of Sustainable Development to capture students’ vision of Monterrey going forward and to secure tangible commitments from them to take action needed to Protect Our Planet.
The workshop was livestreamed on the ministry’s facebook pages and website.
