On October 17, 2019, Samuel Chijioke Okorie organized a workshop with 120 students from UNICAL (University Of Calabar) International Demonstration Secondary School, Cross River State, Nigeria. The students were introduced to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that have been adopted by the United Nations as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. They were informed about what each SDG stands for and drew about how it applies to society. Special focus was given to SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and they engaged in group discussions on SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions). The students talked about specific SDGs that they felt were more important to them and also discussed activating them in their groups. They learned about advocating for the Sustainable Development Goals in order to bring development in their communities and in the larger society. Questions were vocalized on taking the SDGs forward and amplifying its cause in the various platforms they are exposed to, and the students pledged to move forward with action.
