The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Division of the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA)KoKMA and the Strategic Youth Network for Development (SYND) have kicked off an exciting partnership to co-create innovative activities to promote environmental sustainability and reduce disaster risk! Together, they are committed to building a resilient Ghana, equipped to tackle the challenges of climate change and disasters. This is one of the ways of helping our youth platform members to deploy their skills, abilities and innovative ideas on climate & environmental issues which will serve as a key mechanism in tracking our impact and further demonstrate the crucial role of young people in promoting environmental sustainability.

Ghana has implemented decentralisation, defined generally as a process of state reform composed of a set of public policies that transfer responsibilities, resources, or authority from higher to lower levels of government. Ghana’s decentralization involves a mixture of political devolution that is enshrined in the Constitution with the aim of bringing governance and decision-making closer to the people.

New strategic direction includes working with local government agencies to:

-Mainstream climate action into their respective 4-year Medium Term Development Plans.
-Calibrate how they can expand their Internally Generated Funds (IGF) through climate and environmental lens as a coping mechanism in the light of the significant cuts in aid support notably USAID, UK aid and the Netherlands aid.
