POP Youth Mentors conduct climate action workshops for rural women in Puebla through Fundación JUCONI México

On May 26, 2022, POP Youth Mentor Nahid Pérez Ayala and Honorary POP Ocean Mentor Ana Hanhausen were invited to participate in a series of climate change trainings for Fundación JUCONI México, which were directed at a group of women in Puebla, Mexico who live in rural communities affected by the 2017 Earthquake.
Nahid Pérez spoke about strategies to engage children and youth in informal, out-of-school settings with climate change and education. After presenting different solutions, the group talked about the importance of children and youth being involved in the climate movement and learning how to identify the biggest threats in their communities as possible solutions and how being really involved in the problems and solutions is the biggest strategy of engagement.
Ana Hanhausen presented some solutions that are being implemented around Mexico in order to combat climate change in different areas: homes, waste, and food. After presenting different solutions, the group talked about the importance and impact of activism. For the activity, the group spoke about the community’s needs and demands in order to think about raising their voice to highlight these issues and find solutions.
