Following the solar bench prototype installed in the schoolyard of Julius-Stursberg-Gymnasium in 2019, POP Germany has installed a second smart bench in Neukirchen-Vluyn, where individuals can recharge their mobile phones with solar power while strolling through town. This solar bench which has been installed with support from ENNI Energie & Umwelt is equipped with two USB ports and an inductive charging facility.

On August 19, 2020, the solar bench came into operation in the presence of ENNI Managing Director Stefan Krämer, Mayor Harald Lenßen, Lea Böder, Iman El Mach, Valentina Fiori and POP Germany’s Mentor Andreas Forsthövel. With the bench carrying the school logo and the slogan “Climate Protection: Being active now is indispensable” that the students had conceived, it serves as an incentive for the school and community to continue their commitments to climate protection efforts.
