It is a routine for the POP family to treat in a special way every 18th, September of the year. POP Cameroon being a sub-branch of this embodiment has simply allied to this vision. For this year edition, the lyric “We Are Smart” better explains the promptitude in which the world needs to push forward constructive initiatives for a sustainable planet. And this calls for an inclusiveness of all class of the society. This is one of the reasons why Pop Cameroon opted for this edition to involve orphans in the fight.

Leadership training workshop on climate leadership

On 18 September 2021 early morning, the POP Cameroon led by the POP youth mentor Tsague Dongfack Willy Endelson visited the orphanage Delapaix as to involve the orphans in activities set for the World Clean Up Day 2021. The association majorly optimised trainings, community service and climate leadership. The day opened with a clean-up campaign, both inside and outside the orphanage, afterwards, the exercise pursued on the streets of the Dschang municipal council, especially spots where refuse were mismanaged. In the process, the team regarded a keen concern to plastics bottles and papers dropped at the roadside, as to avoid the overflow of these plastics in rivers. So, the children were drilled in a practical workshop on recycling processes of these plastics. Further, the children received capacitation on organic and liquid fertilizers, especially as the orphanage sustains on agriculture. The POP family gave a symbolic gift to the orphanage.

One exciting aspect of this day is the initiative to involve the little ones in activities, especially the clean-up exercise, which goes a long way to foster the citizenship of this social class, obviously the future of the nation. This becomes more effective in this moment where the nation is drowning in its own waste. Yet so many people have become so used to it that they don’t even see it any more. As POP smart Youth Mentors, we strongly believed that it is high time the nation optimised initiatives with accent on the youths. In this way, the base, the youth will be mindful of these challenges as they grow, and to rise early with constructive counteractive actions.
