Planting Trees at Sakubva Mutare Zimbabwe
December 19, 2022
Restoration project continues to gain support from Sakubva, Mutare Zimbabwe as local members play their part to plant and look after trees planted and protect the environment.
On December 19, 2022, Manica Youth Assembly in Partnership with Protect Our Planet Zimbabwe planted 100 trees in Sakubva Mutare Zimbabwe.
Deforestation demands massive tree planting by all stakeholders. People can participate in reforestation and afforestation by planting trees, which is seen as a very engaging and environmentally-friendly activity.
Deforestation and subsequent land degradation are a threat to millions of people in Zimbabwe and around the world, affecting livelihoods, wellbeing, food security, water security, and energy security. The major drivers of deforestation are clearing land for agriculture, settlement expansion, wood energy, mining activities, veld fires, and illegal logging activities.
As MAYA, we don’t just plant trees and walk away, we prefer to think of ourselves as an environmental community organization, taking steps to ensure trees continue to live healthily once a project has ended. Our tree-planting projects are designed with local communities to address their needs for increased income, climate resilience, and access to nutritious food and planting the right trees in the right places, and ensuring communities feel equipped and empowered to take care of forests for generations to come.
Tree planting should also be complemented by sustainable utilization of indigenous forests, allowing degraded forest to naturally regenerate. In time, the forest cover will improve.
We urge communities in Zimbabwe to plant trees as part of efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change whose devastating nature to people’s lives, infrastructure, and the environment requires everyone to put their hands together.
Planting trees can be done at any time, but the rainy season is the best as it provides the natural moisture necessary for the seedlings to thrive and mature into big trees and forests.
