The Faculty of the Social Science Quadrangle at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka hosted an event coordinated by Ploggers Nigeria and the University of Nigeria. The event, titled “Clean-up event: Let’s show love to our mother earth” was aimed at reducing littering and plastic pollution. The event was coordinated by Dr. Chiemezie Atama and Mr. Ayodeji Omilabu, and 61 undergraduate students participated. The clean-up exercise lasted for 1 hour and 30 minutes, during which 25.5kg of recyclable bags and 24 bags (55kg) of other wastes were collected. The event has led to a more healthy environment and raised a community that is more bonded. It also provided equal opportunities for boys and girls to take climate actions, impacting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3, 4, 5, 12, and 13. As a way forward, regular clean-up exercises among students may raise environmental consciousness and reduce littering and plastic pollution, creating a healthier environment for all.
