Introduction

POP Youth Mentor Jean Félix EBO’O and his team launched the second phase of the project tree planting in Cameroon from July 23 to August 2022 the activity for the establishment of a nursery of 1,500 trees. This activity is the continuation of the project to plant 3,000 trees of various species initiative of the NGO POP MOVEMENT. This activity, which brought together more than 60 people from all corners of the surrounding villages, young people and the local associations.

Summary of the activity

Saturday, July 23, 2022 was the day of the start of the launch activities of the nursery of 1,500 trees for the second phase. Thus, the POP Youth Mentor accompanied by several young people from the localities started with the development of the site and the preparation of the sachets for the launch of the activity.

The nursery project took place in several localities in order to increase the number of volunteers in these areas. Thus, 800 seeds were put on the bags in some villages in the South region and 700 in the Center region of Cameroon.

Volunteers under the coordination of the environmental association ensure Amis de la Planète du Cameroun with the watering of the bags and cleaning of the different sites and the monitoring of the plants in these nurseries.

Project assets

The population will benefit from trees of several varieties, which will solve several local difficulties. Thus, the fruit trees will help schools and the rest of the community to eat and sell the fruit. Similarly, therapeutic trees will cure several tropical diseases such as malaria.

Some difficulties encountered

Despite the success of this phase, the difficulties are of a general nature, namely: monitoring and maintenance.

– At the level of monitoring: seeds and plants face multiple attacks from birds and insects.

– At the maintenance level: The mobilization of volunteers for the monitoring of the nursery is often expensive, namely the watering, the cleaning of the different sites.

Meeting with the Minister of the Environment

The POP MOVEMENT was received by the Cameroonian Minister of the Environment to inform him of the various activities carried out within the framework of the reforestation financed by the POP MOVEMENT in Cameroon. Jean Félix EBO’O also took the opportunity to present his diploma received by POP. He congratulated this commitment and that the young person is a model to be copied from African youth.

Conclusion

The second phase of 1500 trees was a major success in the South and Center Region of Cameroon. The massive participation of the population has been a great effectiveness of the POP Youth Mentor Jean Félix EBO’O through his great collaboration and especially his experience in climate issues and youth leaders in Cameroon. POPMOVEMENT’s financial support has been a great success. Despite some difficulties encountered in managing the size of the population. The last phase will be that of planting trees.
