Intergenerational Dialogue on Environmental Justice and Equity

On April 21, 2021 “Online Peace Education”, a Webinar Series organized by the Permanent Secretariat of the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates as part of their Youth Program, “Leading by Example”. In the 7th webinar of this series, organized in partnership with the POP (Protect Our Planet) Movement. An “Intergenerational Dialogue on Environmental Justice and Equity” in the presence of H.E. Dr. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, the Sixth and First Female President of Mauritius; Forbes List of the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women, 2016 and first among the Forbes List of the Top 100 Women in Africa, 2017, 2019; Foreign Policy’s Top 100 Global Thinkers, 2015 and H.E. José Ramos-Horta, Former President of East Timor; Nobel Peace Prize (1996) Winner together with Bishop Carlos Felipe Ximenes Belo for their work towards a just and peaceful solution to the conflict in East Timor. The webinar underscored the importance of environmental justice, where equity and justice serve as the fundamental premise for climate action and sustainable development. Through an intergenerational conversation between a global leader and youth from across geographies like Latin America, Africa and Asia, the cause of climate justice, gender equality, inclusion, and resilience was discussed. The dialogue-based session also emphasized the role of leadership, both at the community-level and at higher decision-making, in promoting inclusive strategies and solutions that uphold the principles of environmental justice.
