Empowering Youth for Climate Accountability: SYND Ghana’s Post–World Bank Annuals Action

September 11, 2025 - September 13, 2025

Building on the momentum of the recent World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington D.C., the Strategic Youth Network for Development (SYND), Ghana, with support from the BigShift Global (BSG) Campaign, organized a debrief session for members of the Youth in Natural Resources and Environmental Governance (Youth-NREG) Platform.

The session explored key highlights from the Annuals, including the extension of the Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP) to 2030, the World Bank’s renewed focus on job creation, and the push to redirect investments from fossil fuels toward renewable energy.

In addition, participants initiated plans to co-create a social media campaign and press conference to advocate for Ghana’s National Compact on Mission 300, recently submitted for national review.

This campaign aims to enhance youth engagement in holding Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs), such as the World Bank, accountable—ultimately contributing to diverse green job creation, improved transparency, and environmental sustainability.

SYND continues to champion a justice-centered approach to climate and development financing—emphasizing accountability, inclusion, and equitable access. By empowering young people as environmental justice ambassadors, this initiative bridges local realities with national and global advocacy, embodying the principle of “power to the people, by the people, and for the people.”
