Cool The Globe: Prachi Shevgaonkar in POP Climate Leadership Conversations
December 10, 2021
“Tools and technologies have the power to take something that you are doing at a personal level, at a small scale and enable it to become global and have many, many people join into that effort. I think that’s one of the most important powers of tools. In order for that tool to be relevant, it should also be rooted within the will and objective behind it.”
Prachi Shevgaonkar, Founder of the start-up Cool The Globe, joined a conversation with Honorary POP Ocean Mentor, Ana Hanhausen and other POP youth leaders about her tool to promote climate action through Cool The Globe, as part of “POP Climate Leadership Conversations: A Tribute to Our Chief Mentor” on December 10, 2021.
When asked about the meaning of leadership, Prachi spoke about how leadership promotes inspiration and learning from other leaders and entrepreneurs, especially when it comes to experiencing leadership first hand and having the opportunity to observe it. Prachi spoke about how leaders should inspire and let go; trusting and empowering people to do it on their own. When asked about Cool the Globe, she told the story of how she started setting goals for herself and the people around her who wanted to join and set goals for themselves. For this, she turned to technology to help them measure their carbon footprint reduction and impact. Prachi also spoke about how being a young entrepreneur has both challenges and opportunities; the challenges include not having enough resources, but the opportunities include an expanding vision, support from young entrepreneurs, and constant motivation. Finally, Prachi spoke about the importance of individual actions that need to happen before community action is achieved and how individual action and motivation drive whole communities to action.

Prachi spent months covering stories of youth, farmers, waste-picker communities and citizen groups to understand the impact of climate change in day to day lives of people. She firmly believes that when ordinary citizens come together, miracles can happen.
