Civil Society and Youth: New Strategies for Transformative Impact
June 16, 2020
As part of the weeklong e-conference on “Strategies for Transformative Youth Leadership” organized by the World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS) and United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), a panel on “Civil Society and Youth: New Strategies for Transformative Impact” was organized on 16 June 2020 to identify and discuss new strategies that will enhance the impact of CSO actions for systemic change toward more just and sustainable societies. Dr. Ash Pachauri, POP Senior Mentor, was a panelist in the session alongside David Harries, Principal Investigator, S&S Guide; Mariana Todorova, Assistant Professor, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences; and Hong-Mei Li, International Association for Human Values, Art of Living Foundation.
Moderated by Obiora Ike, Executive Director, Globethics.net, and Thomas Reuter, Professor, University of Melbourne, Australia, the panel highlighted the following ideas-
- Integrate the idea and spirit of civil society engagement in schools and through self-education and learning
- Create more platforms for youth to directly engage with other leaders and engage in decision making
- Participatory approaches engaging youth in designing solutions
- Need for more peer-to-peer programs, by and for youth
