From 26–29 July 2026, POP Initiative Mentor Happy Mbewe led a three-day community activity at Zumulu Primary School, Machinga, Malawi, engaging 18 participants in a conversation on the intersection of climate challenges and gender inequality.

The activity explored the everyday realities of women in the community, from working in fields and walking long distances to collect water and firewood to managing childcare and household responsibilities. Participants reflected on how these burdens often leave women with limited opportunities for education, careers and skills development.

The discussions also highlighted how climate disasters disproportionately affect women and girls, often intensifying existing inequalities and increasing their responsibilities during times of crisis.

The activity concluded by encouraging both men and women to work together towards more equitable households and resilient communities. Participants developed a fairer household daily calendar and left empowered and motivated to take collective action for a more prosperous community.
