Connecting Climate Change, Energy and Education in Malawi
28 May 2026

On 28 May 2026, Mthunzi Trust, led by POP Initiative Mentor Symon Satiele, conducted an awareness session at Malunje Primary School, engaging 30 primary school pupils in discussions on the connections between climate change, energy access, and environmental conservation.
The session focused on helping young learners understand how climate change can affect access to energy in Malawi, while introducing them to the importance of sustainable energy solutions and environmental protection. Aligned with SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 15 (Life on Land), the activity encouraged students to connect global sustainability goals with challenges affecting their own communities.
Alongside the awareness session, learners preparing for their national examinations were provided with writing materials to support their academic preparation. By combining climate education with educational support, the initiative strengthened awareness among young learners while demonstrating how grassroots action can contribute to both environmental sustainability and community wellbeing.
