Meeting with the Minister of Sustainability, Monterrey
April 5, 2019
The POP Movement met with the Minister of Sustainability, Ing. José Manuel Vital Couturier of the State of Nuevo Leon in Monterrey on Apr 5, 2019. During the two hour discussions with the Minister and his colleagues — Martin Subscretaria; Hector M. Lopez Romero, Director of Planning and Sustainable Energy; Dra. Ruth Reyana, Coordinator of Climate Change — we discussed that the State of Nuevo Leon offers the potential to be a model for climate-action for Mexico and the World. The State is already supporting over 100 youth-led climate action projects across several institutions. Additionally, to mark World Environment Day in June 2019, the State will host a youth climate-action festival inviting the students and young people leading their projects to showcase their work. The Minister also discussed Nuevo Leon’s plans to host a local, World Sustainable Development Forum (WSDF) event in October 2019. In preparation, businesses from across the state will be invited to come forth and present their sustainability commitments. Leaders in business will be shortlisted to participate in the WSDF, Monterrey, 2019.
