
Meghana Elsa Thomas
POP Youth Mentor
Meghana Elsa Thomas is a fierce feminist and LGBTQIA+ activist who aspires to create an equitable world of endless possibilities, safety, and security. She has completed her Master’s in Journalism and Mass Communication from the English and Foreign Languages University in Hyderabad. Her Master’s dissertation – inspired by the work of the United Nations Environment Programme and the Playing for the Planet Alliance – analyzed the audience reception to a serious game to explore the impact of video games as a medium for climate change engagement.
Meghana is a leader and a team player, and has developed valuable organizational and managerial skills during her under-graduation. During the three years of her undergrad, she has worked with the International Foundation for Crime Prevention and Victim Care (gender-based violence), and with blind students. As a two-term member of the Student Senate of Women’s Christian College, Chennai, she has also organized multiple events and coordinated with organizations such as Times of India to conduct cultural events and talent shows. She was awarded the Vatsala Pai Prize (2020) during her graduation in recognition of her achievement in academics, sports and games, co-curricular and extracurricular activities, qualities of leadership, and service to the college and the wider community.
Meghana firmly believes that thoughts must beget action. Through her involvement in the POP Movement, she hopes to create the change she wants to see and to inspire and motivate youth around the globe to take action to make planet Earth a healthy and happy home.
