Collective action against climate change comes from a place of awareness and it requires an understanding of a region’s climate policy and their specific targets. Looking at this, the session will discuss how individuals can contribute towards influencing climate policy at a local level and will also emphasize the need for incorporating climate policy themes in school education.

SESSION: COLLAPSING MARINE BIODIVERSITY AND ITS IMPLICATIONS FOR THE BLUE ECONOMY

This workshop aims to highlight the many ways in which accelerating climate change, overexploitation and mismanagement, and ever-growing marine pollution are transforming the marine biodiversity across the world’s ocean basins.  The workshop will discuss the wide-ranging adverse impacts of the ongoing changes in the marine food-web on the Blue Economy of nations around the world, and how the young people can affect change and contribute towards building a sustainable Blue Economy that protects and preserves our planet’s incredibly rich ocean biodiversity.

The connections between human wellbeing and the health of the environment is becoming increasingly evident as we acknowledge that the health of the planet is inextricably linked with the health of its inhabitants. This session will discuss how human-influenced changes in environmental factors have lasting consequences for human health. It will also emphasize the need to address the environmental changes by adopting a health perspective and appreciating the complexity of life-supporting systems.
