Workshop at Universidad Tecnológica de Coahuila

A 5-hour interactive workshop supported by the Ministry of Environment and the Universidad Tecnológica de Coahuila (UTC) was conducted with students of chemistry, nano-technology, and business administration in Saltillo, Mexico on Feb 28, 2019.
The students were hugely inspired to take urgent climate action and have pledged commitments to address water contamination and deforestation, while developing clean technologies which is feasible given access to the state-of-the-art infrastructure at their institution.
Additionally, they are motivated to see their climate action commitments through while showcasing them at the POP Movement’s upcoming festival in Nayarit scheduled in August, 2019 and forming a youth committee to demand action from global leaders at the World Sustainable Development Forum meeting in Mexico City in 2019. The Ministry of Environment, Coahuila has offered support for student engagement with these flagship POP events of 2019.
The workshop was attended by 200-plus students; Maestro Oscar H. Martínez Martínez, Director Académico de las carreras de Química, Nanotecnología y Administración de la UTC; Dr. Oscar E. Flores García, Subsecretario de Gestión Ambiental de la Secretaria de Medio Ambiente del estado de Coahuila; Erika Guadalupe Cruz de León, Técnico Evaluador de la Coordinación de Cambio Climático, Gestión Integral de Calidad del Aire y RETC, de la Secretaría de Medio Ambiente; Perla Aidé Juárez González, Asistente Administrativo de la Coordinación de Cambio Climático, Gestión Integral de Calidad del Aire y RETC, de la Secretaría de Medio Ambiente; Santiago Barrios Rosillo, Analista de Proyectos, Gestión Ambiental, de la Secretaría de Medio Ambiente; José Luis Bogard Ramos Casillas, Maestria en Gestión Ambiental, de la Secretaría de Medio Ambiente; and Verónica Armendáriz, Profesora de Tiempo Completo de la UTC.
