The Youth Symposium (TYS) which is a platform founded by high-school students in Delhi, India, partnered with the POP Movement to virtually host “The Youth Symposium CAN (Climate Action Now)” on April 22, 2020, marking 50 years of Earth Day. Envisioning to discuss matters of environmental relevance with young people from across the world, the debut symposium, organized by TYS, sought to examine the role of education in improving the environment and enabling climate action for the future.

The event was graced by the presence of Former Constitutional President of Ecuador, H.E. Ms. Rosalia Arteaga Serrano. She spoke about human-induced climate change and disasters like the Amazon wildfire. The key points of her speech included the awareness of the youth for climate action.

The symposium consisted of youth from different parts of the world including countries like Pakistan, Morocco, Benin, Poland, UAE, UK, México, Canada and the United States. They presented their ideas related to macro scale innovations, sustainable products, role of education on climate advocacy, environmental awareness generation through social media and learning from past mistakes. The ideas discussed in the symposium will be further implemented through tangible youth-based actions. Moreover, a consolidated policy report will be prepared based on the discussions of the symposium and will be shared with the participants as well as the Aam Aadmi Party (Ruling political party in New Delhi, India).
