The Chiapas POP Movement Festival

May 16, 2019

The POP Movement hosted its first festival in the Chiapas, organized by Dr. Enrique Alberto Vàzquez Constantino in partnership with several stakeholders from government, businesses, and academia.

The two-day festival brought together about 500 people, including leaders from the public and private sector, young people, academics, activists, and advocates from 4 indigenous communities from over 10 regions in the state of Chiapas and from around the country.

During the two-day festival event which focused on knowledge sharing, networking, and strengthening the resolve of all communities to take climate action, various issues were discussed including, but not limited to, deforestation, the need for urgent policy action to reduce plastic and chemical pollution, and the pressing need to preserve biodiversity.

The event was extensively covered by online and offline media. Read more here and here.

The festival closed with the ancient words of wisdom from a Mayan Master who reminded us that we must worship the earth we live off. Participants made commitments and pledged action they will take to Protect Our Planet.
