Valencia, Venezuela: On Monday, October 17, 2022, the POP Youth Mentor Ricardo Delgado attended the new radio program #RadioU at La Mega 107.3 FM to talk about the youth-led climate organization The Protect Our Planet (POP) Movement.

#RadioU is a one hour program that broadcasts to Caracas City from Mondays to Fridays at 3:00 PM EST with the hosting of Alejandro León (@alejandroconinstagram) and María José Castejón (@marijomaracas). It provides a window for undergraduate students to discuss their student life with a unique point of view on mental health, work opportunities, youth-led activities, and college news, among other subjects.

During the transmission, Delgado shared his experiences as both a student and a youth mentor, focusing on how he joined the movement and what it is like to be a POP member. He mentioned:

«When something is meant to be for you, it really does. I first joined the movement during the pandemic when I started my Journalism studies. At that time, I attended a workshop organized by a teacher and one of the group members was also a member of POP; we reached out to each other, and then one thing started leading to another (…). It’s really beautiful to work with so many cultures: there are people from Mexico, Colombia, Nigeria, India, and it goes on. More recently, here in Valencia, we taught meditation to the kids from the vulnerable community of Filas de la Guacamaya Municipal Park and it was something beautiful».

He also took some time to acknowledge the current climate emergency his country is facing regarding the heavy rains and the recent landslides in Aragua State:

«We have never experienced rainy seasons like this. And each year, rains will come heavier and heavier. This is a moment for us to become conscious of the situation and to learn from it».

The POP Movement thanks #RadioU team for its commitment to youth better exposure.
