POP Senior Mentor speaks at the VSE Annual Conference on building resilience through inclusive approaches

On May 11, 2022, POP Senior Mentor Dr. Ash Pachauri virtually attended the “VSE Annual Conference 2022—The Age of Resilience” organized by Victim Support Europe (VSE) and Victim Support Malta (VSM) in Malta. He provided an address during the first session of the conference titled, “Conflict, intolerance, and social instability and their impact on victims of crime in unstable times” alongside speakers, Simon Green, Professor of Criminology & Victimology and Associate Dean for Research & Enterprise, University of Hull, UK; Dora Georgiou, PhD, University of Cyprus & the Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement; and Peta Milan, CEO, Transcendent Media Capital & JET Group.

Speaking on the subject, “Increasing stress factors: How do we build resilience and is the solution the multiagency approach?” Dr. Ash Pachauri elaborated on the POP Movement, the need for collective action and solidarity, and inclusive approaches that amplify the voices of those most vulnerable. He also emphasized how climate change is a public health emergency and that we need to collectively create ‘a climate of change’ to tackle the issue now.

The two-day VSE Annual Conference 2022 featured varied topics under the theme of resilience, including conflict, intolerance and the role of the victim support community during the time of COVID-19, victims and their victimization, oppression, injustice and empowerment during a pandemic, displacement and rehabilitation of victims, amongst others. The discussion aimed at highlighting the ways to achieve resilience, individual, social, and structural, by sharing resilience strategies and approaches to contain systemic threats.
