On 7 August 2026, the legacy of Late Dr. R.K. Pachauri came alive through action as young people gathered at District Park, near Apollo Hospital, Jasola, New Delhi, for a youth-led tree plantation drive under Dr. R.K. Pachauri Forest Initiative.

Bringing together 80 young participants, the three-hour plantation drive resulted in 200 trees being planted across 200 square metres, transforming a shared commitment to climate action into a image.jpegtangible contribution to the environment. More than a plantation activity, the initiative offered young people an opportunity to reconnect with nature, work collectively, and recognize their own role in building greener and healthier communities.

The initiative draws deep inspiration from the vision and environmental leadership of Late Dr. R.K. Pachauri, whose lifelong work emphasised the urgency of addressing climate change while empowering people, particularly young generations, to become active stewards of the planet. By placing youth at the centre of environmental action, the Forest Initiative seeks to carry this image.jpeglegacy forward through grassroots climate action.

The plantation drive was organized by the POP Movement, in collaboration with the Manav Rachna Centre for Peace & Sustainability (MRCPS) and Manav Rachna University, as part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative of the Government of Delhi.

The day demonstrated the power of collaboration in turning environmental awareness into measurable action. Every tree planted represented not only a contribution to biodiversity and ecological restoration, but also a commitment to a more sustainable future.
