On 20 August 2026, the POP Movement came together with mentors, allies, colleagues, and young people from across the globe to commemorate the life and enduring legacy of Dr. R.K. Pachauri, Founder and Chief Mentor of the POP Movement as a global tribute event.

The Global Tribute Event was not simply a commemoration, it was a celebration of a vision that continues to inspire generations. Over the course of the evening, participants came together to remember Dr. Pachauri’s remarkable journey, reflect on the values he championed, and renew their commitment to the work he dedicated his life to.

The programme opened with a welcome address, followed by a heartfelt tribute video that offered glimpses into Dr. Pachauri’s journey and contribution. Reflections by Dr. Saroj Pachauri on “The Legacy of Dr. R.K. Pachauri and the Future of Youth Climate Leadership” and Dr. Shailly Kedia on his “Life, Work and Lessons” connected his legacy with the responsibility of today’s generation to continue advancing climate action.

The evening became particularly personal through memories and learnings shared in a dedicated video, followed by reflections from Dr. Shonali Pachauri and Dr. Anandajit Goswami. Their stories reminded everyone that Dr. Pachauri’s impact extended far beyond his professional accomplishments, it lived in the relationships he built, the people he mentored, and the generations he inspired.

A powerful highlight of the ceremony was the Global Youth Voices Panel Discussion, image.pngmoderated by Pranav K. Gahadwal, bringing together Kingsley Osajie, Bhumika Diwan, Jussa Kudherezera, Symon Satiele, and Khushboo. Their diverse perspectives reflected the growing role of young people in shaping the future of climate action and carrying forward the values that Dr. Pachauri stood for.

The commemoration then moved from remembrance to action with a session on the Dr. R.K. Pachauri Forest Initiative: The Action, Mission and the Way Forward, presented by Dr. Ash Pachauri. The programme also featured POP Academy and POPix, reinforcing the POP Movement’s continuing commitment to youth learning, engagement, and leadership.

The evening concluded with an Awards and Recognition Ceremony and Closing Address by Dr. Norma Patricia Muñoz Sevilla, celebrating contributions to the movement and bringing the gathering to a meaningful close.

As the evening came to an end, one message resonated throughout the gathering: Dr. Pachauri’s legacy lives on through the community he helped build and through every person who chooses to lead with purpose.

The tribute was a reminder that remembering a leader is not only about looking back, it is about carrying forward the vision, values, and determination that made their work meaningful. Through its mentors, allies, and especially its young people, the POP Movement continues to carry that spirit forward.
