Between the days August 17 and 21, 2020, POP Youth from Nigeria, Samuel Chijioke Okorie supported the coordination of Calabar Recycling and Upcycling Summit 2020. In the theme ‘Mkpo me mbio’ (Upcycling pays), a series of activities were organized in different venues in Calabar with a reach of over 1000 people offline and 10,000 online.

The event was initiated through the awareness and sensitization walk in the region, leading to the Cross River State Ministry of Sustainable Development, Women Affairs, Health, Communication, and Ministry of Environment. Following this, a two-day Summit was held which involved dialogue between stakeholders from the field of environment, health, and business on promoting sustainable actions. The summit also saw an exhibition of products, as vendors displayed their recycled and upcycled works. Furthermore, women, children, and youth came together to witness the performance of young eco heroes on upcycling as they conveyed a message of positive behavior change against waste generation and improper disposal.
