On February 21, 2020, POP youth from Nigeria, Samuel Chijioke Okorie and his team met with the Commissioner, Minister of Environment and Permanent Secretary to discuss the issue of plastic disposal on roads and their subsequent obstruction of drainage channels. The meeting was attended by Mr. Israel who has been known for his local recycling and upcycling efforts in Cross River State.

The team went on to assist the Commissioner of Environment in successfully carrying out a cleaning activity focusing on drainage channels. A new environmental task force was then created by the commissioner to facilitate sanitation in the state, and monitor improper waste disposal.

The team also met with the Executive Secretary of Calabar Urban Development Authority and Chairman of Calabar Environmental Task Force who offered their unfettered assistance to the group.
