From 01 to 8 June 2026, Sibonile Myambo and participating community members began preparations for a new tree nursery, taking an important step towards establishing a practical space for environmental education and future tree planting.

The activity focused on preparing the nursery site, including ploughing the soil and coordinating the initial groundwork with participants. Materials required for the nursery shed and soil propagation were also sourced, including timber for the structure. A local preschool contributed a piece of land for the nursery site, strengthening community ownership of the initiative.

The activity also demonstrated the value of partnerships and local collaboration, with local businesses supporting the transportation of nursery and soil propagation materials at affordable rates. More than 300 preschool learners are expected to benefit from the initiative as the nursery develops, creating opportunities for young learners to gain practical exposure to tree cultivation and environmental stewardship.

Aligned with SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), the activity highlights how collaboration between schools, local businesses and community members can help turn environmental ideas into locally led action.
