Inauguration of the Eleventh Edition of the Dr. Héctor Mayagoitía Domínguez Heritage Chair on Environment
12 February 2026

On February 12, the CIIEMAD-IPN inaugurated the Eleventh Edition of the Dr. Héctor Mayagoitía Domínguez Heritage Chair on Environment, commemorating the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (February 11). The event brought together academic leaders, educators, and young participants in a celebration of science, environmental awareness, and the empowerment of girls in STEM.
A special highlight of the day was the participation of girls from the “El Perpetuo Socorro” Children’s Home, who engaged in a dynamic Science Rally titled “Little Scientists, Big Ideas.” Through interactive and educational activities, the program fostered curiosity, critical thinking, and early interest in science and environmental fields — encouraging young girls to see themselves as future scientists and leaders.
During the event, POPPIX was introduced to the participating students, generating enthusiasm and curiosity. A follow-up presentation on POP and POPPIX has been coordinated with school authorities to further deepen engagement. The POPPIX presence within the Research and Postgraduate Studies Secretary has already inspired a positive shift in institutional culture, with Dr. Martha Vázquez, Secretary of Research and Postgraduate Studies, expressing pride in the initiative. The event was attended by IPN authorities including Dr. Samuel Pérez Rodríguez, Dr. Nicolás Fernández García, Dr. Oscar Cigarroa Mayorga, Dr. Pedro Rodríguez Espinosa, and the Mother Superior of the “Perpetual Help” Children’s Home — reflecting strong institutional support for science education and environmental leadership.
