Mission 300: Fireside Chat Highlights

October 18, 2025

Mission 300 (M300) — a collaborative initiative by the World Bank Group, AfDB, Rockefeller Foundation, GEAPP, SEforALL, and the ESMAP Trust Fund — aims to connect 300 million Africans to electricity by 2030.
During the Annual Meetings, a fireside chat under Chatham House rules brought together officials from the World Bank, AfDB, Rockefeller Foundation, and civil society representatives to discuss strategies for advancing the initiative.

Key Outcomes:

  • Addressing Africa’s infrastructure deficit.
  • Training 14 Fellows to strengthen government human resources.
  • Establishing Compact Delivery & Monitoring Units (CDMUs).
  • Enhancing coordination between Finance and Energy Ministries.
  • Launching Zafiri, a new investment platform for renewable energy enterprises.
  • Creating 3,140 new jobs, with 48% for women and 50% for youth — figures projected to rise.

To date, over 32 million people have already gained electricity access through Mission 300. Ghana, part of the second batch of National Compacts, is targeting 99% electricity access and a 10% renewable energy share (850 MW solar, 150 MW hydro, 200 MW wind) by 2030.

The discussion underscored the critical role of youth leadership in co-creating clean energy jobs and advancing a sustainable energy future. Andrew Herscowitz, CEO of the Mission 300 Accelerator at the Rockefeller Foundation, emphasized the Foundation’s commitment to deepening youth engagement in this transformative mission.
