World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS) Fellow and GlobalMindED Founder & CEO Carol Carter invited WAAS to collaborate with GlobalMindED in organizing the 2024 GlobalMindED Conference. GlobalMindED works to close the equity gap in education. This Conference, held in Colorado, convenes thought leaders from the ground level to the highest levels of academia, government, business, and nonprofits to solve the greatest issues we face in creating a capable, diverse talent pipeline through access and equity for all.
The WAAS Board organized various sessions at the June 17-19, 2024 conference in Denver.
Dr. Ash Pachauri, a Senior Mentor of the POP Movement, Associate Fellow of WAAS, and Inclusive Leader Award winner, 2021, was a key participant in the session titled ‘
Human Security for All: Technology,
AI and
Human Flourishing.’ This 50-minute session, moderated by
Grant Schreiber, WAAS Campaign, Funding and Program Manager, featured insightful discussions by 4 speakers,
Walt Stinson,
Helen Young Hayes, Ash Pachauri, and
Karen Ashworth-Macfarlane, on June 18, 2024. Dr. Pachauri’s contributions focused on the role of
AI in education, the two recent books he co-authored —
AI in Education and Climate Action Now — and the importance of implementing
AI with
human security and sustainability considerations in mind. He also addressed the need for inclusive
AI models, issues related to
AI, trust, and transparency, and the importance of considering the carbon footprints in developing, training, testing, and deploying Large Language Models.
