Securing the Dschang signal Reserve, West Cameroon Region

In recent years, environmental values ​​have tended to take more and more important in urban areas. The city of Dschang, of importance and of tourist and emblematic notoriety, follows this environmental shift. The big challenge for the municipality of Dschang is to develop its own urban forestry program which includes the re-vegetation of the Signal forest and the restoration of the degraded landscapes of the city’s hills. At the national level, a vast program of reforms integrating not only the aspects of sustainable management of natural resources, but also the issues of good governance and the fight against poverty are being implemented. The Cameroonian municipalities acquire with the adoption of the new laws on decentralization of July 2004 (Law n°2004/017 of July 22, 2004 on the orientation of decentralization, law n°2004/018 of July 22, 2004 fixing the rules applicable to municipalities and Law No. 2004/019 setting the rules applicable to the regions), new powers; however, the means at their disposal remain limited.
