March 11, 2022
Loum Yebene from 11 to 12 March 2022
On March 11-12, 2022, Jean Felix EBO’O, a Protect Our Planet (POP) movement youth mentor from Cameroon hosted an activity that involved the establishment of a 3,000 nursery bed of trees in a village called Loum Yebene, South of Cameroon.
On March 11, 2022, the first day of the program, POP mentor and his teammates opted to make developments on the site which was handed over to him by the community members. About 1,500 trees of different species were planted and a total of 50 young people from all corners of surrounding villages actively participated to make ends meet in the process of land preparation and tree planting. This day was dedicated to the clearing and cleaning of the site which will house a total of 3000 trees as well as the filling of a hundred sachets for the preparations for the launch ceremony of 1500 plants.
On March 12, 2022, the groundbreaking for the project establishment was conducted and was presided over by Reverend Pastor MEDJO of the Cameroonian Presbyterian Church in Nkomo Yassaman Village. He was accompanied by Mr. ZE NKO’O chief of the village Loum yebene. Jean Felix went ahead to thank the community for providing the site on which the project has been established and also empowered the community on the advantages of trees and why they should plant more of them in schools, churches, chiefdoms, and other public places within their localities. On the last day, the POP youth mentor on behalf of the entire POP team appreciated and blessed the community for the support during the entire project establishment and willingness provision of a site that can host more than 3000 trees. A meal to all stakeholders and participants involved was provided as a token of thanks.
Conclusion
There is a really great inclusion of the grassroot leaders in the entire program and a very welcoming response from the locals in the community which not only makes this project a promisingly sustainable one but also highly impactful in terms of participation and involvement of various stakeholders to attain the project objectives.
