Meetings in the Chiapas

The POP Movement met was invited to the Chiapas, Mexico — one of the most bio-diverse hotspots of the world — by Dr. Enrique Alberto Vàzquez Constantino. He arranged a number of important interactions and field visits on February 25, 2019. The POP Movement met with Ms. Rosa Netro, President of the Commission of Forests and Jungles, in San Cristobal along with her colleagues Ms. Laura Espinosa, Ediberto, and Jorge Beltran. During a field visit, discussions took place with the indigenous community led by Mariano de la Cruz Regidor de Zinacantan. A fruitful conversation on how the community could be supported in its reforestation efforts was held at the Municipality’s Headquarters in Zinacantan. Subsequently, Dr. Enrique Alberto Vàzquez Constantino, Ms. Netro, and the POP Movement met with President, Teodulfo Perez Hernandez, the local leadership of Larráinzar. The President was very supportive of the POP Movement and offered his full support and effort to collaborate to Protect Our Planet. Next, the POP Movement and colleagues traveled to Chamula where they met with the Sindico Muncipal of San Juan Chamula, Mr. Salvador Lopez Gonzalez. Discussions on the importance youth engagement in climate action we led by Ms. Rosa Netro.
