Safe School Project seeks to assist rural children who cannot afford online education and face accessibility issues during the COVID-19 pandemic. The initiative brings education close to them by educating them in their own communities using a medium (place of gathering) close to them. It employs the standard educational curricula through the help of volunteers. This project commenced on August 10, 2020 and is currently ongoing in the city of Calabar, Nigeria with over 300 children as beneficiaries. As part of the efforts to revamp the spirit of sustainability in the minds of children, the project also adopts Teach SDGs strategy that will help the children adapt and familiarize themselves with the SDGs. Since the inception of this project, the children’s performance have significantly improved as most of them who cannot read and write, can now do so. Adopting the same approach, this project has also been replicated in two other states in Nigeria: Ogun State and Ondo.
