The RK Pachauri Crowdfunding Campaign

The youth of today constitute almost one-fourth of the world’s population. Late Dr. Rajendra Kumar Pachauri, former Chairman of the IPCC considered this to be the greatest potential for progress and envisioned that youth, when inspired by knowledge, will shape the world through forward thinking and innovation.

This Nobel Peace Laureate believed that dealing with climate change requires people-based actions, driven by knowledge about the problem and its solutions, and this belief served as the foundation for the POP (Protect Our Planet) Movement that he founded on April 22, 2016. The not-for-profit organization attempts to mobilize and mentor young people around the world, inspire them with knowledge to implement actions in their schools, colleges, communities and homes.

As the youth of the POP Movement transcend borders of language, culture, class, and country and come together as leaders of action, you can join us to shoulder this responsibility and support the forward thinking, innovation, and progress of this invaluable human resource base from wherever you are on the planet.

The campaign aims to raise USD 50,000 through GoFundMe, Donadora and the POP Website. The funds raised through this campaign will be used to meet the following objectives:

1. Promote climate innovation and action by the youth
2. Acknowledge their efforts at international platforms, and provide greater opportunities
3. Overcome funding challenges faced by young innovators, indigenous communities, and vulnerable groups to execute their projects

With every passing day, we as a global biological community, through human actions, advance by leaps and bounds towards environmental catastrophe and extinction. By truly returning to support ideas, actions, innovations, and knowledge-sharing, we can mitigate this damage done to our planet.

That is why the POP MOVEMENT launches the RK Pachauri fundraising campaign, to not only support the ideas, projects, and innovations of creative young minds, but also to bring forth the norm of climate mitigation and adaptation, through them.

The funds raised will support the initiatives and projects conceived and led by young people from around the world including the most vulnerable groups such as the indigenous communities in Latin America and the youth across Africa.

SARGASSUM CLEANING CAMPAIGN

90 million tons of Sargassum approaching Florida!

Since 2015 the beaches of the Caribbean region have witnessed the massive arrival of sargassum, a dark brown seaweed, whose origin was presumably the Sargasso Sea. Currently, this floating macroalgae has reached the Gulf of Mexico and the Florida Peninsula. Satellite images captured by NASA indicate that approximately 5,000 miles of sargassum float between the Gulf of Mexico and the West African coast.

Conducted by the National Polytechnic Institute and in collaboration with a team of researchers from the POP Movement, a study was carried out in 2022, along the coasts of Quintana Roo, Mexico, to analyze the impact of sargassum on the environment and on human health.

We are a young non-profit organization that is working hard with youngsters between the ages of 10—24 to find and deliver urgent solutions to climate change. We need support for our outreach and networking activities, research into education, and for conducting workshops with school and college students.

The battle against climate change is long and hard. There are deployed hundreds of teams of researchers working day and night on the problem of identifying, collecting, re-creating and sharing knowledge to millions of youth around the Globe. The process of the dissemination of innovation-generating ideals and ideas requires time, patience, and effort.

Your contribution will help us reach out to nearly 1.84 billion young human beings with messages of action-causing nature, and with the gifts of knowledge that has the brilliance to re-shape the planet. Your donation will help us collaborate with more and more people, organizations, institutions and governments for the betterment of all humanity, starting with the youth, and ultimately spread knowledge about Earth, the environment, climate change, and well-being to nearly 25 per cent of the international population of the world—the 25 per cent that have the most to gain and lose at the same time, sometime before 2100.
